The project includes a two months long Minor field study financed by Swedish International Development Cooporation Agency, Sida, where interviews were conducted with two families in socially deprived area of ​​El Paraiso, located in the shantytown of Ciudad Bolivar on the outskirts of  the capital of Colombia. Also studied was the construction of a new house where the recovered debris from the nearby landfill was used as construction material.

In my work I use, from this house,  the same material, with the intention to create a solution to provide daylight in the house. The solution should relate to needs and wishes the family who lives in the new house might have. The solution will also considerate weather conditions such as sun, wind and also the floor plan of the house.

My goal is to use the same available materials found at the site to give the people who live there alternatives to make natural-light enter the house. By using their own resourses, they themselves are able to implement these solutions. Another goal is to provide insight into how people’s lives might look like in this part of the world, and hopefully give us a perspective on our own.

Projektet omfattar en två månader lång så kallad Minor field study med resurser från biståndsorganisationen Sida där intervjuer gjordes med två familjer i det socialt utsatta området El Paraiso som ligger i kåkstaden Ciudad Bolivar i utkanten av Colombias huvudstad Bogotá. Vidare studerades uppförandet av ett nytt hus där återvunnet skräp från den närliggande soptippen användes som byggmaterial. I mitt arbete försöker jag utifrån detta hus, med samma material,

Göra en lösning för dagsljusinsläppet i huset. Lösningarna ska förhålla sig till de olika behoven och önskemålen familjen kan tänkas ha. Lösningen ska också förhålla sig till väderförhållanden som sol, vind och husets planlösning.

Mitt mål är att med de tillgängliga materialen som finns på platsen ge de människor som bor där alternativa lösningar på ljusinsläpp som de själva har möjlighet att genomföra. Målet är också att ge inblick i hur människors tillvaro kan se ut i den här delen av världen och förhoppningsvis också ge oss perspektiv på vår egen.
